Council Opens 'Steve Bracks Promenade
Words by Rachel Watkins
Hobson’s Bay council has acknowledge former State member for Williamstown and Victorian Premier Steve Bracks’ contribution to the community by naming the newly built section of shared pathway adjacent to Battery Road, Williamstown the ‘Steve Bracks Promenade’.
Bracks shock resignation as Premier on 27 July 2007 caught everyone off guard, he stated the reason behind his decision was a desire to spend more time with his family.
At a ceremony of Friday 7 December, a plaque was unveiled at the site to commemorate Mr Bracks’ achievements during his 13 years in local government.
During that time he accomplished great things for the Hobson’s Bay community including saving Point Gellibrand and having it formally recognised as a coastal park.
